Why The Escape Couch Exists

A hobby project built one couch cushion at a time.

The Escape Couch started with a simple question: could we build our own version of the two-player, at-home escape rooms we loved playing with each other — no app, no subscription, just two people, two phones, and a good mystery?

The idea

Every room here works the same way. Two players, two devices, two completely different screens. There's no server and nothing syncing in the background — everything you need to solve your side of the puzzle is already sitting on your partner's screen. The only way to win is to actually talk to each other: describe what you see, listen for what they see, and piece it together out loud.

The one rule that matters: never show each other your screen. Half the fun is realizing the answer was sitting right there in what your partner just described to you.

Built by hand, one room at a time

Each escape room on this site is designed and built from scratch — original puzzles, original art (drawn entirely in code, no stock photos or clip art), and a brand-new theme every time. Nothing here is a template reskin; every room gets its own puzzle chain designed to be solved out loud, together.

Who it's for

Date nights. Family game nights. Sleepovers. Grandkids visiting for the weekend. Long-distance best friends on a video call. If you can open a link on a phone or a laptop, you can play — that was the whole point from day one.

Free, for now

Every room on The Escape Couch is free to play. This is a labor of love before it's anything else — if that ever changes for future rooms, you'll hear about it here first.
